Elsie Elizabeth Davis (nee Kovach), age 96 , of Amherst, died March 3, 2018 at Bloom at Lakewood after a brief illness.

Elsie was born November 21, 1921 in Amherst, OH and had been a lifelong Amherst resident. She graduated from Amherst High School in 1939 and from St. Alexis Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland in 1942. Elsie served during WWII in the Navy reserves, and afterwards belonged to the Red Cross. She worked for Amherst Memorial Hospital, serving as head surgical nurse for a time, retiring after 30 years.

She was a member of SCOA (Senior Citizens of America); REAC (Retired Eagle Activity Club); Amherst Eagles Auxiliary; and Catholic Golden Agers. Elsie was an avid bowler for many years. She also enjoyed playing golf, reading, crossword puzzles, and western movies. Elsie loved life, her family, travel, and her pets.
Elsie is survived by her devoted caretaker and granddaughter, Leighann (Robert) Patterson of Lakewood; grandson, Brian (Jackie) Gringle of Brunswick; son, Douglas Davis of Lorain; six great grandchildren, Evan and Joshua Patterson, Hayden, Carter, Regan, and Paisley Gringle; a sister, Donna Joyce Mulder of Amherst; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Douglas Davis in 1983; daughter, Georgia Gringle in 1980; sister, Margaret Ziolek in 2001; brother, Frank Kovach in 2004; infant brother, Louis; and her parents, Joseph Kovach in 1947 and Erma (née Kraus) Kovach in 1970.
A Memorial will be held on March 17th 2018 in the Chapel at 9:30 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Father Timothy O'Connor will officiate.
A private inurnment will take place at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to St Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
